Triathlon Training:  Tucson, Arizona was named the second best winter training ground by Triathlete Magazine and I happen to disagree.  I believe, after living in Tucson for over five years, that Tucson is the VERY BEST winter training ground.  With just over 1 million people (including Oro Valley), it still has the small town feel, but all of the amenities of a large city, and is becoming the home of new professional cyclists and triathletes every year.  Tucson has over 300 days of sun, which makes for fantastic winters, especially in March, with highs usually in the 50s-60s and lows in the 30s-40s.

Swimming:  Tucson has many pools to choose from as the City of Tucson has done a wonderful job in providing an abundance of lap pools, some which are open year round.  One of my favorite pools is Udall Pool, which was recently recoated and the Oro Valley Pool, which is sometimes set up as a 50 meter pool.  You can be certain of one thing, wherever you choose to live in the Tucson area, you're sure to be close to a lap pool for training.

Mountain Biking and Road Cycling:  In 2006, the Tucson/Eastern Pima County region was the only region in the nation to receive a gold rating, the second-highest rating for bicycle friendliness, from the League of American Bicyclists.  The city is now striving for Platinum Status, and has over 700 miles of bike lanes, many as wide as 8 feet.  We have various riding terrain for athletes including rolling hills, sustained climbs for over 1 hour, as well as flat terrain.  If you're a mountain biker, Tucson has several mountain bike trails closeby.  Some of my favorite places are Fantasy Island (southeast Tucson), Redington Pass (eastern Tucson), Arizona Trail (eastern Tucson), and Star Pass (western Tucson).  Trails range from beginner to expert, so everything is available.

Running and Hiking:  Tucson also offers some of the best running and hiking a city has to offer.  From mountain trails to paved urban trails, Tucson has it all!  Some of my favorite places to run/hike are Sabino Canyon and Saguaro National Park (east).  Sabino Canyon has a lot of really great trails as well as a 8 mile out and back paved road (closed to cars and bikes) which meanders through the canyon.  Saguaro National Park is less populated and has several hiking trails as well as an 8 mile paved loop.  This loop is open to cars and fast cyclists so watch out if you're running or walking!  There are several other places bordering the city that offer phenomenal hiking and running.  Of course, feel free to contact me for any information.

Rock Climbing:  Tucson is truely a mecca for rock climbing.  With several routes available in the Catalina Mountains, you're sure to find an adventure.  Although I'm not the rock climber I used to be, I do have available sources that can help you.
